Doctor Who Filming
David Tennant was spotted filming and the great Scooty took a photo of him with Billie Piper (Rose) which The Sun newspaper promptly stole!
It was interesting that David Tennant was spotted filming with his camcorder for the series 4 boxset!

A couple of new videos
The other video is a trailer for Recovery which is up on YouTube here. It looks like a very moving drama from that clip so Wednesday evening should be "interesting". I hope it doesn't stir up too many memories for me.

Video interview with David Tennant about Recovery
David Tennant interview in Ocean County Observer
As a stage actor, David Tennant got used to stepping into other people's roles.
He's played Romeo, after all. Others have been doing that for 411 years. He's done the classics for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Still, something is special about his current duty: He's the 10th Doctor Who with episodes at video stores and on BBC America.
"With every new doctor, you get to start over," Tennant says. "It's not like playing Sherlock Holmes. You make it your own."
That's been the nature of the show, almost from the beginning.
"Doctor Who" was created in 1963 as a low-budget children's show about a time-traveler, simply known as The Doctor. When the star became ill three years later, the creators decided the doc had the power of regeneration.
Previous doctors have ranged afar, Roger Fulton and John Betancourt wrote in The Sci-Fi Channel "Encyclopedia of TV Science Fiction" (Warner Books, 1998).
At one extreme was William Hartnell (1963-66), who made the doctor "a rather forbidding, tetchy Edwardian eccentric." Or Colin Baker (1984-86), who made him "arrogant, brash and abrasive."
At the other was Tom Baker (1974-81). His doctor was "a wide-eyed, curly-haired, grinning ... rebel, an intellectual Bohemian in a floppy hat and flowing scarf."
Now comes Tennant leaning to the latter side. This doc seems to enjoy himself.
"He has a joie de vivre," Tennant says. "There's the feeling that he's inside a young man's soul, even though he's 925 years old."
He's cheery, even though he often must fight to save the planet, "if not the entire universe."
Part of that may reflect Tennant's own nature. He says he grew up enjoying TV.
"As a kid, it's what I did," he says. "I particularly liked the fantasy. ... That was my first storyteller."
He grew up in Paisley, a Scottish city near Glasgow. There, his father was a clergyman, "which had a certain performance aspect to it."
Tennant went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dance and later joined Royal Shakespeare. That's where he did "Romeo and Juliet," "The Comedy of Errors," "As You Like It" and more.
He couldn't keep his surname, because there was a David McDonald registered with the actors' union. So he chose a new name after reading about Neil Tennant, a singer in the Pet Shop Boys.
Gradually, he's made his new name famous. In the United States, people saw him as Barty Crouch in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and as the cop in "Viva Blackpool," a musical series on BBC America. He also shared the title role in Masterpiece Theatre's two-part mini-series "Casanova" on PBS. He played the younger Casanova and Peter O'Toole played the older version.
Now he's back on BBC, Sci Fi, and in stores.
The previous batch had Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor Who, a serious action hero teaming with a stunned shop girl. She was played by Billie Piper, who stayed for Tennant's first season.
He's busy on a new season, now, with each year having 13 episodes plus a Christmas special. That's more than the old British habit of six shows a year, but far from the American habit of 22.
"I can't imagine what that would be like," Tennant says.

David Tennant in The Mrs Bradley Mysteries
This drama was especially interesting as Peter Davidson (the fifth Doctor Who) is also in it so there's a scene with 2 Doctors! Actually PD isn't in it anywhere as much as DT but he gets higher listing (probably because he was more of a name back then). The other thing I noticed is that the Script Editor was Julie Gardner (who is now Executive Producer of Doctor Who).
I really enjoyed the episode and it was nice to see David Tennant acting in something different.
The Age Of Steel
It's not my favourite episode of the series but it's still enjoyable. I especially like the long speech that David Tennant does when he meets the cyber-controller and lets Mickey know that they need the code to the emotional-inhibitor. I then watched it again on UKTV Gold +1! (It's on again tonight at 12.25am and repeated on UK Gold 2 at 1.25am.)

(If you listen to the commentary on the BBC site then DT points out that his hair is much shorter in this scene (and photo) as it was filmed later than the scenes around it!)

2 hour Tennant-fest!
The Doctor Who Confidential was mainly about the new doctor (David Tennant) so was very interesting with lots of the interview with DT. They also showed some of how they filmed parts of New Earth and chosing the 10th doctor's "uniform".
I'd recently seen New Earth on UK Gold but I hadn't watched Tooth and Claw since it was first screened so it was nice and fresh again to watch. The CGI werewolf in it is amazing and Pauline Collins fits the role of Queen Victoria perfectly (although the part at the end where they talk about how that may be how haemophilia got into the Royal Family doesn't work as Queen Victoria passed it onto her children and when that episode was set she'd already had all her children.
I thought the "make the Queen say that she was not amused" was rather infantile and carried on for too long but one of the best parts is when The Doctor sees the werewolf for the first time and just stands there and exclaims about how beautiful it is!
There are some lovely shots of David Tennant with great lighting but unfortunately the BBC website doesn't have them as screenshots.
Nice quote from John Barrowman about David Tennant
One of the questions he's asked is whether he prefers David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston. His answer is "David, he's such good fun and a great guy. We live in the same building and we're friends off set. We're planning a night out soon."
Oops!
The original thread was called Tennant Watching so I'll copy all those posts across sometime soon.

Doctor Who outtakes
Takin' Over The Asylum
I enjoyed the series but I thought the last episode let it down a bit.
Certainly something to keep and watch again though!
I work in a Doctor Who location!!!
Apparently there is a BBC book (featuring the 8th Doctor) called The Adventuress of Henrietta Street and that's the road I work in! (It's not a long road either. it's just by Covent Garden)! There are some reviews of the book here and apparently it's set in the 18th century (I work in a listed building so it's been around for a long while). Obviously I'll have to buy the book now.
Talking about buying Doctor Who books, my copy of Doctor Who - The Inside Story by Gary Russell was delivered today. It looks like it's going to be a good read! There's 256 pages of behind the scenes stuff on the first two series. Being female(!) I looked at all the photos first but I've also read the foreward by David Tennant (I admit I had to look up the word "ephemeral"!) and the afterward by Russell T Davies.
Now I can't wait to get into the book itself!

The Hello magazine poll
Yesterday Diavid Tennant started about 200 behind Hugh Laurie (HL) but by around midnight last night he was about 60 in front. It appears that HL always does better overnight but last night he only gained about 100 and David Tennant and caught that up and was back in the lead again by the afternoon.
The pattern so far has been that David Tennant's fans come out to vote in force in the evening and he gains ground but somehow tonight HL has steamed ahead (he's about 100 in front as I write this). Something suspicious happened a couple of hours ago though as for a few minutes none of the voting buttons loaded on the site and that was when HL steamed away.
It's only a bit of fun but I'd really like David Tennant to win (especially against HL as he looks frightful in House!).
Only 3 weeks to go!!! Please vote if you can.... http://www.hellomagazine.com/vote/mostattractiveman/month/index.html is the link.
Rumours about Doctor Who
The (possibly) big one is that there's supposed to be a big BBC meeting in Cardiff today about Doctor Who. Hopefully the 4th series will be commissioned. Hopefully even more the 5th series will be commissioned too and David Tennant will sign-up to act in both series!
The other rumour is that the actress Jessica Simpson is supposed to be in talks about possibly appearing in an episode of Doctor Who. Apparently it's hoped that it'll help the Beeb sell the series to America.
More Doctor Who on TV on Saturday!
And don't forget that David Tennant is in The Mrs Bradley Mysteries at 7.00pm on Saturday too on UKTV Drama!

DVD Arrived!
My copy of The Quartermass Experiment DVD arrived today!
I bought it on E-Bay and it seems that it has some extras (a documentary about the making of the production, audio commentary by the cast and a photo gallery) which looks interesting! I tend to eke out my DT watching (partly due to lack of time but partly because I dread the day when I have nothing new to watch!) so I've just read the liner notes and I'll settle down to watch the DVD sometime soon.
There's a nice photo of David Tennant in the booklet (pictured left) and it says that he started the rehearsals slightly late as he still had the flu. There's a sweet quote from him about being nervous about the show (in case you didn't know it went out live on national TV) "I particularly have got a lot of jargon, a lot of scientific, technical, medical stuff and that can be difficult to get your tongue around at the best of times. I'm worried that I'll get my "post-catabolic residues" mixed up. But maybe nobody will notice if I do it with enough conviction!"
The liner notes also says that it was these rehearsals that he discovered that he'd been cast as Doctor Who.
Apparently during the live performance itself, David almost lost his footing while racing from one set to another. "David's feet just went from under him but he picked himself up and carried on running"!

David Tennant in Taking Over The Asylum episode 3
I read somewhere that when they were trying to cast someone in the role of Cambell Bain they were looking for someone who looked 19 (David Tennant was 23 at the time) and could play someone who was hyper as the character is a manic depressive. I think he's really good in it as he chases around all over the place and I like the way they don't pull any punches about calling themselves loonies....they even have a "spot the looney" contest!
Now I just have to see if I can connect everything back together again so that I can watch Sky and my videos again!
There's even more Tennant watching next weekend as we have shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday now that UK Gold are saying that they're showing a repeat of The Age Of Steel very early Sunday morning!
David Tennant currently in #1 place on the Hello magazine poll
At the start of the weekend, he was in 3rd place so it's a real achievement that he's curremtly in #1 position!
I've been working from home all weekend so a vote every 15 minutes has been a welcome break from my work. (It's also quite a good discipline breaking my day into 15 minute chunks to see what work I've achieved since the last one!) Plus I've been popping into Outpost Gallifrey now and then as they've been posting some great photos as an incentive!
Unfortunately it's still early days as the polls don't close until 28th February but the proof is above.
Rise Of The Cybermen
I had a bit of trouble taping it (I really shouldn't have unplugged everything at the back of the TV!) but I managed to get it recorded when it was shown an hour later on UK Gold2. I will buy the Series Two DVD box set at some point, if for no other reason than the Tennant Diaries!

Taking Over The Asylum Eps 2
We worked out it was because I was trying to watch it on a computer so I (finally!) today invested in a DVD player (as I'm the only person I know who doesn't have one!). It took some setting up as I have an old telly and I have the choice of either the DVD player or Sky and video and I have to unplug loads of cables to get from one option to the other.
Anyway, I watched the second episode and it had a nice lot of DT scenes in it, especially the one at the end when he takes over the microphone to stay in the asylum....the acting in that part is very impressive!
It's been busy on the Hello magazine voting site today. David Tennant had dropped into 3rd place behind Hayden Christiensen but it seems that loads of people have been voting today so as I write this David is now 5,021 to HC's 4,565! Hugh Laurie is (somehow!) in front with 5,459. I've been voting religiously every 15 minutes as I've been working at home (and I know it's Saturday!) and it gives me a brief break 4 times an hour.
And we still have The Age Of Steel to watch tonight on UK Gold!
David Tennant on TV loads next weekend!
Friday 9th 7.00pm - Doctor Who Confidential (about David Tennant as the new Doctor)
Friday 9th 7.30pm - Doctor Who episode New Earth ("you like it!")
Friday 9th 8.15pm - Doctor Who episode Tooth And Claw (one of the best scenes in that is his fascination at seeing the werewolf for the first time)
So that's a 3 hour Tennant-fest!
Then on Saturday on UK Drama there is the David Tennant episode of The Mrs Bradley Mysteries. This is set in around the 1920s, complete with the unflattering clothes they wore back then! I was lucky enough to catch an advert for the series last night on TV which shows DT!
Friday, 2 February 2007
The Christmas Invasion on BBC3
Usually if I'm watching it on video, I'll just fast forward to the "Did you miss me?" line but tonight I watched it all.
I was disappointed about the Doctor Who Confidential which preceeded it as it was about the finale of Series One so didn't show any DT.
Vote for David Tennant on Hello magazine website
David Tennant won the weekly vote a couple of weeks ago and now it's the vote for the best looking guy featured in the magazine during January. The voting is "temperamental" as sometimes the votes appear to go down but you can only vote once each 15 minutes.
For some reason he's only in third place at the moment!

NEWS - Filming today in a quarry in South Wales
Apparently they are filming (starting today and continuing next week) in a quary in South Wales. Also rumoured (reasonably reliably) is that John Barrowman (Captain Jack) starts filming tomorrow.
Source: Torchwood.tv
A good day for Tennant Watching!
First I read on the wonderful David-Tennant.com website that there will be a special screening of Recovery by BAFTA on 14th February and I managed to get a reserved seat on the guest list! It's a drama that David Tennant filmed last year about a couple who have to come to terms with the husband drastically changing after a serious head injury.
The other bit of good news today is that BBC Three are repeating (at least part of) the second series of Doctor Who starting tomorrow! Of course I saw them all when they were on the first time but unfortunately I didn't record them. I caught a couple when UK Gold repeated them on a Saturday morning but they showed them out of order as we had Army Of Ghosts, then New Earth and then Doomesday!
Tomorrow there is an episode of Doct Who Confidential (the Rose special) at 7.00pm and then The Christmas Invasion at 7.30pm.
I've also discovered that UK Gold are showing an episode at 12.25am on Saturday night / Sunday morning. For some reason (not that I'm complaining!) they're showing The Rise Of The Cybermen which doesn't fit in with the order of the others they've shown on that channel!
A bit of history
Anyway when BBC1 announced that they were going to bring it back in Spring 2005 I settled down to watch it and was amazed that not only was it better than the original, it was 10 times better! I know that back in the 60s and 70s they were limited with budget and special effects but I thought that the storylines were just SO clever in the new series.
Fast forward to late 2006 and something happened and I got into Doctor Who in a BIG way in general (and into David Tennant into particular!). The first non-Doctor Who thing I saw him in around that time was the Virgin Radio Christmas Pantomine which was hilarious! I was then lucky enough to go to the taping of The Friday Night Project (more about that later).
Anyway, this is my Blog of Tennant Watching with some news items, some things that I'm watching and hopefully some little gems too!
Enjoy....
